This is a story of intrigue, jealousy, love and hatred, set in the idyllic countryside of County Wexford.
Liadan, aged eight, is witness to a killing. Confused by this tragic event she constantly questions her father about what she thinks she saw. Maurice, her father, promises her that he will explain everything to her in a letter which she is to read on her eighteenth birthday. Ten years later Liadan prepares to read the letter. Will the contents of that letter finally reveal the truth?
Written in a beautifully descriptive style, the portrayal of life on the family farm, with its old house and gardens, and the rural and small town setting of the novel, give this story an authentic and distinctive flavour.
