The Glass Fern is a sweeping historical drama told against a backdrop of love lost and love found and one girl’s heroic efforts to survive. While staying at the sumer house of the Howard family in the West of Ireland, Sara Deering rescues a fellow house guest from drowning. On that day Sara’s life changes forever. Through unfolding circumstances she is drawn ever more into the Howard family and its curse, and forced into a journey that takes her from her home in Dublin to the south of India.
This extends over a period of several years and ends in the refugee camps in Calcutta during the east/West Pakistan war. On her return to Dublin she is again inescapably embroiled in the life of the Howard family until its final tragedy eventually releases her.
