About the Author

My name is Paul Boylan and this is my first book. My wife Valerie, Amy and Luke and I live in Finglas in Dublin. I have worked in communications since I left school in 1977 and am now with Eircom. My interests include taking my Harley out for a run, rockabilly music and small woodwork projects. I only began writing stories such as this after an accident on a motorcycle left me unable to sleep. It was then that Amy asked me to write her a story, Luke threw in some ideas and Valerie reassured me. I suppose you can say it was a joint family effort.
I hope you enjoy the Kourge.

Extract from The Kourge

Friars Field

It was a city. An underground city. It was unbelievable. There were roads, buildings, rivers and lakes. There were fields and farm buildings, churches and we could even make out schools. The one thing that was different from our village, was that there were no vehicles such as cars, trucks or any sort of motorised vehicles. No buses or motorbikes. There were horses and carts and people riding bicycles, but nothing that had an engine. We just sat there taking it all in. The more we looked the more we could see. Evan noticed it had a sun or what looked like a sun. There were sports fields and running tracks and we could see people going about their business. Children were playing in the school playgrounds and people building houses. Where were we? We wondered how it was possible for such a place to exist this far underground. How did they manage for food and everything else we just took for granted? Was this only a dream? We watched in amazement. After a few minutes of watching, Evan got up and said
“Come on, lets go and explore”.
