Living on Amber is Tony’s first publication and represents his own personal selection of poems. Tony Uhlemann was born in 1949 in Mount Merrion in South County Dublin. After graduating from Oatlands College, Stillorgan, Tony moved to London for several years where he began writing short stories and poetry. He returned to Dublin where he married, started a family and had a successful career in the Insurance industry. Now, a father of three and grandfather to three grandsons, Tony has spent the past six years compiling and arranging thirty years of his hand-written journals.
Living on Amber is Tony’s first publication and represents his own personal selection of poems, through which his ever prominent themes of ‘solitude’ and ‘searching’ are presented.
The opening Poem, also titled ‘Living on Amber’, sets the tone. Not quite regretful but a hint of lament for a life that was planned on paper but never materialised.
Excerpt from Living on Amber
“I will pass on. I know I will. Without
reflection even. The sense of something
missing, left undone, though strong,
is merely memory playing games.”
