In writing this book my first aim was to include a selection of poems and stories that everyone can relate to, read and enjoy.
The book is divided into six sections. The poems I selected are inspired by nature, people, and I also included a few poems that I hope will make the reader smile.
The very short stories could be subtitled ‘coffee break’ stories as they are ‘one page’ fiction with a little twist in the tale.
Fictional short stories I have been writing with many years. Those I have selected for this book are my favourite stories that I have written. I hope that you will enjoy them.
We all need a laugh or a giggle now and then, especially in these challenging times. Therefore the ‘for a laugh’ section has seven tales with a ‘comedy’ element to them.
I really wanted to include a section for the young reader (or young at heart) so I included some true stories from my childhood as well as stories I wrote with the young reader in mind.
The last section consists of two very, very special stories written from the heart. I hope you enjoy ‘There will always be flowers’. It’s my dream come true!

There Will Always Be Flowers
There will always be flowers in the vase in my hall
All cheery and welcoming to those who call
And when I come in through my front door
All wet and shivery from a sudden downpour
I’ll look at my flowers all colourful and sweet
And I’ll try not to think of the rain or the sleet.
There will always be flowers as I love every bloom
And I find they add colour to every room.
In springtime the daffodils are pretty and fine
With soft yellow petals, God’s unique design.
Though my garden sports flowers for most of the year
I just love to see them so there’s never a fear
That I’d get a scissors and cut any blooms
As in their place would be a patch of gloom.
So I buy my flowers they’re not expensive at all
For the pleasure they give me in my vase in the hall.
There will always be flowers though I have to say
When my sister visits I must hide them away.
She gets hay-fever and just one little flower
Would make her start sneezing for over an hour
But she lives up the country so for the most part they stay
In the vase in my hallway to brighten my day.
