Irish editors and proofreaders
You can find useful information about standard rates for proofreading and editing in Ireland at the Association of Freelance Editors Proofreaders and Indexers as well as a list of accredited members. Browse their members section to find a proofreader or editor who works in your chosen genre.
At the time of writing, the following rates are being given as standard guidelines for proofreading and editorial work. Please bear in mind these are rough baselines and individual rates may vary substantially depending on the exact nature of the work:
Proofreading and light copy-editing: €25 – €35 per hour
Standard copy-editing: €40 per hour
Editing
An editor can provide essential help to writers by bringing professional skills and sensitivity to the re-writing process. We strongly recommend you get somebody, be it a family member or friend, to read your book thoroughly, looking at both content and text.
If you prefer, we can provide you as the author with a panel of professional editors. It would then be up to you to decide who you want to use and come to a deal with that person regarding costs.
Proofreading
We also recommend that you proofread your work a number of times looking for spelling and punctuation errors. Again, you may wish to have a family member or friend help you with this process.
