Your publishing timetable

Every book is different but typically we can publish your book in 6-8 weeks. A carefully reviewed final draft is the key to troublefree publishing.

The importance of the final draft.

At Original Writing we work only with completed drafts. A completed draft means that you have reviewed your work thoroughly, possibly getting feedback from others along the way and that you are 100% ready to proceed to production and printing.

While we’re happy to discuss any author’s potential work at the writing stage, the real work on the publishing side can only begin with the submission of a full final draft in electronic format, ideally Microsoft Word. We assume that a final draft is subject to no further editing or substantial corrections.

Authors still engaged in the writing process might find our resources section useful or may be interested in our sister site Writing4all where they can get feedback on work in progress. Authors wishing to hire professional proofreaders or editors should consult the proofreading and editing page.

Typical publishing stages

Every book is different but a typical publishing schedule would run as follows (receipt of manuscript is week 0):

  • End of Week 2 – First draft of final layout and cover design
  • End of Week 3 – Second draft of final layout and cover design
  • End of Week 5- Final Proof for sign-off
  • End of  Week 9 – Shipment of order

Note: The above assumes the manuscript has been edited and proofread to the author’s satisfaction and that minimal changes are required thereafter.
